Burak Cakmak appointed CEO of Fashion Commission

RIYADH—The Fashion Commission has announced today the appointment of Burak Cakmak as CEO to take the lead in elevating the development of the fashion sector in the Kingdom and empowering practitioners in the field.This comes in line with the Saudi National Culture Strategy implemented by the Ministry of Culture to manage the development of the Saudi cultural sector.Burak Cakmak holds two MBA degrees from Ceram Business School and San Francisco State University. He has a distinguished career spans more than two decades of senior positions in the fashion industry, the last of which was his appointment as dean of fashion at Parsons School of Design - The New School - in New York since 2015.Prior to that he held a number of leading positions, including his membership as a sustainability consultant at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and his membership on the Advisory Board Committee for the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Lexus Fashion.The Fashion Commission is one of 11 cultural commissions launched by the Ministry of Culture to manage the empowerment of Saudi cultural sector.The Commission’s roles would include but not be limited to; implementing a sector development strategy, licensing activities, defining regulations and legislation for the sector, encouraging investment, providing educational and professional programs, in addition to empowering talented practitioners, professionals and entrepreneurs in the fashion industry.
